The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a statutory body established in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act No. 29 of 1996 and is a registered Sector Education and Training Authority for the Mining and Minerals Sector in terms of the Skills development Act No 97 of 1998.

Minimum criteria

The minimum criteria required include a strong academic record accompanied by a need for financial assistance. Applicants must also have genuine interest in and knowledge of the mining and minerals sector.

The MQA bursary supports the following core mining disciplines:

Mining Engineering
Mine Survey
Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive only)
Geology
Environmental Health and Management

Students studying the following disciplines will also be considered, although there are limited bursaries availalble:

Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current only)
Mechanical Engineering
Chemical Engineering( Mineral Processing)
Electro-Mechanical Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Analytical Chemistry
Jewellery Design and Manufacturing
Special consideration will be given to female applicants as well as applicants living with disabilities.

Purpose

Identify ISO/IEC biometric standards that the fingerprint identification system should comply with for adoption into industry.
Assist with the planning and implementation of the process for making the fingerprint identification system compliant with ISO/IEC standards.
Assist with the development and implementation of testing approaches for a fingerprint biometric system.

Qualification

A Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronic, computer engineering or computer science.
Must be able to program in C or C++.
Must be familiar with Octave/Matlab (or a similar interpreted programming language such as Python).
Good interpersonal and team skills.
Must have the ability to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team.
Must be self-motivated.

Purpose

The Intern’s work programme will centre around the Municipality’s needs and may include work in the areas of budgeting, annual financial statement preparation, supply chain management, internal control, asset management, revenue management, expenditure management and financial reporting, client services and debtor services.

•Assist in developing financial policies and procedures

Learning opportunities for 1000 Trainees in the Tshwane Metro Police Department that renders a 24 hour policing service to the community including mainly three core functions namely- Road Policing, By-Laws Policing and Crime Prevention. The main focus is to ensure a safe and secure road environment and to reduce any causes and opportunities for the occurrences of all criminal activities, traffic and by-law contraventions. Trainees will be engaged on an annual eighteen (18) month fixed term contract commencing with an initial 4 week Selection Course. Only after successful completion of this course, deployment for practical training, in any of the 105 wards of the CoT, will prepare Trainees for the Basic Metro Police Course. Once fully complied/qualified for all legal appointment requirements, permanent employment as a Constable will be considered in any of the 105 CoT wards according to an approved grading scheme and shift system.

Terms of employment:

Metro Police Trainees will be employed on an annual 18 months training contract to be trained as a Metro Police Constable. Once fully complied /qualified, permanent employment will be considered.

Stipend: R3 000 per month

Appointment requirements:

Must be a permanent resident of Tshwane area
Must be between 18-35 years old
Must be physically and mentally fit.
Must be in possession of a senior certificate (GR12), of which documentary proof must be submitted.
Have no criminal convictions excluding previous convictions relating to political activities in the previous dispensation, and allow his/her fingerprints to be taken
Is proficient in English
Minimum of a valid Code B driving license (manual transmission)
Must take the oath of office as determined by the Municipality after successful completion of the course

Selection Criteria:

Must be able to undergo a fitness test of 2.4 km running

Provide a medical certificate as proof that a person may do strenuous exercise (you will be requested to provide this certificate if and when you are invited for a physical evaluation)
Complete an English proficiency pre-requisite test
Must pass a medical examination

Training programme

Must be prepared to attend training courses as determined by the CoT
Must participate in a vigorous training program (Inter alia physical, fire arm, theoretical and practical)
Must be willing to undergo abnormal training including after hours without compensation
Will be deployed to any area within the Tshwane Municipal boundaries
